Born in South Korea and raised in Las Vegas, Scarlett identifies strongly with her first-generation immigrant, single-mother household, and working-class background. She is passionate about ensuring that Los Angeles remains an inclusive and diverse place of opportunity for all, as well as protecting and empowering traditionally vulnerable communities.
To these ends, she has worked and volunteered in various capacities— including implementing programs designed to bridge the early education learning gap at preschools in Santa Monica and LAUSD, interning for U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein, assisting Assistant District Attorneys in criminal case prosecution at the Family Violence and Sexual Assault Unit of the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office, as well as serving as a City Council Fellow for the City of Philadelphia, Office of the Majority Whip, Councilwoman Blondell Reynolds Brown.
Scarlett is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, with a B.A. in Political Science.
Outside of SLATE-Z, she enjoys reading up on new subjects at the beach and exploring Koreatown.
